Authorities worldwide are promoting walking for health, environment, transport, sustainability, prosperity and other important objectives. This conference will provide evidence from UK and internationally on ways to encourage walking and to deliver safe streets and places for pedestrians – to make them feel safe and to reduce casualties. It will explore transport strategies, land use patterns, urban and street design. Pedestrian safety is a key objective in its own right and integral to delivering wider objectives, but achieving it needs understanding and specific actions.
