The Chancellor’s 2016 Budget announced a number of transport safety related policies. These included an insurance premium tax rise, the announcement of a second road investment strategy and the announcement of driverless car trials in the UK. The Department for Transport (DfT) has held a consultation seeking views on ‘changes to the Fixed Penalty Notice and penalty points for the use of a hand-held mobile phone whilst driving’. The full details of the consultation can be found here. PACTS has given a full response to the consultation. That response is available here. The consultation is now closed and the DfT are now analysing the feedback received.
