In August, PACTS organised a successful meeting between road safety leaders and the Department for Transport officials who also kindly provided a room. We discussed the four strategic priorities outlined in the Manifesto for Road Safety and discussed how we can work together with the DfT going forward to improve road safety. Lilian Greenwood, Minister for Future of Roads was able to join us for part of the meeting and it was great to hear assurances from the Minister about the new government’s commitment to establishing a Road Safety Strategy and to engaging with the road safety community. We also talked about re-establishing the UK as a more active contributor within the international road safety community.
This was an encouraging start to the conversation surrounding transport safety and we look forward to working together with the new Government to reduce the number of people killed and injured on our roads each year.
