On 8th November 2021, the House of Lords debated Lord Brooke’s amendment 157 to the Police, Crime etc Bill to reduce the drink driving BAC limit from 80mg to 50mg. The amendment was withdrawn following a very good debate. Lord Brooke may table it again at Report Stage.
Lord Attlee, while opposing the Lord Brooke’s amendment, tabled his own amendment (164) to permit the police to undertake random breath testing.
The debate can be found in House of Lords Hansard here: https://hansard.parliament.uk/Lords/2021-11-08/debates/FB30DD8F-025F-402A-8D2E-61EA01E25D58/PoliceCrimeSentencingAndCourtsBill?highlight=alcohol#contribution-4108062F-2CA6-408E-B63B-CF60CC1629DD
The House of Lords adopted a similar amendment in 2016 but the Commons rose before they were able to debate it. That should not happen this time.
