Last Thursday marked the inaugural meeting of the newly re-formed All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Transport Safety, bringing together MPs, Peers, and stakeholders committed to driving forward progress on safety across all transport modes. The number of Parliamentarians registered as members of the APPG has almost doubled to over 40 members spread across both houses since the last meeting.
The meeting opened with remarks from Parliamentarians, who shared the issues they are campaigning on—including road safety around schools, changes to legislation on fatal road collisions, and concerns around ghost plates. There was a shared recognition in the room that now is a crucial moment for transport safety, particularly with the Department for Transport’s forthcoming road safety strategy on the horizon.
The group formally elected its new leadership:
-
- Andy MacNae MP as Chair
- Aphra Brandreth MP, Baroness Pidgeon, and Baroness Jones of Moulsecoomb as Officers
Following the formalities, members and stakeholders heard a series of presentations and contributions.
📌 PACTS outlined the origins of the APPG and key elements that must be included in the upcoming national road safety strategy.
📌 Andy MacNae MP called for a community-centred and proactive approach to road safety.
📌 Ross Moorlock, CEO of Brake, gave a powerful presentation on the importance of post-crash support for families affected by road tragedies.
The meeting concluded with an open discussion on the APPG’s future priorities, which will be refined in the coming months.
We’re grateful to all Parliamentarians who have committed to supporting this group and to the contributors who helped set the tone for meaningful, ambitious action.
