The Criminal Justice Bill had its Third Reading in the House of Commons on 17 November 2003. The issue of Corporate Killing will be debated with New Clauses 11 and 12 tabled by Andrew Dismore MP. In August 2000, PACTS responded to the government consultation “Reforming the Law on Involuntary Manslaughter”. A copy of our response is available here. In its response PACTS supported the introduction of a new offence of corporate killing. It also urged the Government to give clear guidance to companies, through the work of the Health and Safety Executive and other appropriate agencies, on the development of a safety culture so that the occurrence of accidents is prevented in the first instance. The government has a long standing commitment to place the offence of corporate killing on the statute book and PACTS therefore welcomes the attempt by Andrew Dismore to resolve this issue.
