The 25th Westminster Lecture on Transport Safety and the 4th lecture in the UN Decade of Action Series, was delivered by Tony Bliss, Global Road Safety Adviser, Monash University Accident Research Centre, at the Palace of Westminster on 8th December 2014. Tony Bliss, who travelled from New Zealand, spoke on Road safety in the 21st century – public expectations of government. The lecture was attended by almost 100 parliamentarians, Government officials, transport safety experts, business people, road user groups and others. The event was supported by the Direct Line Group with additional assistance from FIA Foundation.

The Chair of PACTS, Barry Sheerman MP, said “Tony Bliss has delivered a powerful message to the UK Government and the road safety community. If the UK wants to retain its position as a world leader on road safety it will need to understand the new challenges and grasp the safe system agenda. As Tony made clear, this requires strong leadership by government backed by research and safety management. The UK has made great strides in reducing its casualty toll but there is still much to do. We should also be playing a larger part internationally where road traffic deaths in many low and middle income countries are at epidemic levels.”
