Making the Government’s Work Related Road Safety Charter a success

PACTS (Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety) and ARRM (Association for Road Risk Management) invite senior leaders, policymakers, fleet operators, safety professionals and industry stakeholders to join a landmark conference exploring the development of the UK’s proposed National Work-Related Road Safety Charter.

The UK Government’s new Road Safety Strategy proposes piloting a National Work-Related Road Safety Charter for organisations whose employees drive or ride as part of their work. Covering HGVs, LGVs, company cars, grey fleet vehicles, motorcycles, e-cycles and cycles, the Charter aims to reduce work-related road risk while improving safety for all road users.

This event will explore the proposed contents of the Charter, if known and if not will look at what is considered to be required by industry experts.  We will be seeking the feedback of delegates to provide different views on what the Charters needs to contain to deliver meaningful change across industries.  The conference will focus on vehicles ranging for HGVs to grey fleets with a sperate event being considered for smaller vehicles and those related to the Gig economy.

Why this matters

Work-related road travel remains one of the UK’s most significant occupational safety challenges. Vans and light goods vehicles are involved in more fatalities of other road users per mile travelled than any other vehicle type, while motorcyclists continue to experience the highest user fatality rates. Despite existing legal duties on employers, there is broad recognition that further action is needed to reduce work-related road harm.

This conference is an opportunity to help shape a practical, evidence-based Charter that supports businesses while delivering safer outcomes for workers and the public alike.
