GEM Motoring Assist has been helping people make safer journeys for decades, whether by car, on two wheels, or on foot. Through their long-established road safety charity, they fund projects that reduce death and serious injury and support campaigns on topics such as rural roads, older drivers, and motorcycling. They also provide free, accessible advice and resources that help road users make better decisions and share space safely.
Why GEM joined PACTS
GEM became a PACTS member to contribute their independent, member-focused voice to national discussions on safe, more sustainable transport. Membership keeps GEM close to emerging research and policy, provides opportunities to share their insights, and strengthens the impact of their charitable funding and public education work.
Focus areas and challenges
A key priority for GEM is tackling the persistent risk faced by young drivers and motorcyclists, who remain overrepresented in serious and fatal collisions. The government’s Road Safety Strategy offers an important opportunity to move from “test ready” to “road ready” approaches for new drivers, supported by proven safety measures. GEM is also working to promote safer sharing of the road with vulnerable users, particularly on rural routes where risks are highest.
GEM continues to develop and enhance its Blue Light Aware resource, ensuring it reflects current roads policing practice, vehicle technology, and road layouts. The charity is investing in updated video content, refreshed guidance, and wider promotion to help more road users respond safely and assist emergency services. Close collaboration with blue light partners and other road safety stakeholders ensures the resource remains accurate, relevant, and widely used.
