A new team of ministers has been appointed to the Department for Transport since the recent election, and five priorities have been laid out. Louise Haigh is the Secretary of State for Transport; Lord Hendy is the Minister of State for Rail; Lilian Greenwood is the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Future of Roads; Simon Lightwood is the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Transport; and Mike Kane is the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Aviation, Maritime, and Security.
The five strategic priorities set out by Louise Haigh are:
- improving performance on the railways and driving forward rail reform
- improving bus services and growing usage across the country
- transforming infrastructure to work for the whole country, promoting social mobility and tackling regional inequality
- delivering greener transport
- better integrating transport networks
With the new motto of ‘move fast and fix things’, PACTS encourages the new Ministers to prioritise safety in their work starting with the delivery of the four strategic objectives laid out in our Manifesto for Road Safety 2024. We have written letters to the new ministerial team and look forward to working constructively with them in the near future.
