On Thursday 10th July, the PACTS Council of Members gathered at the House of Commons for a highly engaging session. We were honoured to welcome Ruth Cadbury MP, Chair of the Transport Select Committee, who shared valuable insights into the Committee’s planned assessment of road safety to follow the Government’s publication of the new Road Safety Strategy.
The meeting also featured presentations from Simon Connick and Isabel Capp of the DfT’s Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV), who provided an update on the secondary legislation following the Automated Vehicles Act. Attendees were informed about the ongoing consultation and call for evidence, offering an important opportunity to contribute to this critical area of road safety.
In addition, we were privileged to hear from representatives of the British Transport Police, D/Supt Sam Blackburn and Phil Bennett, who discussed their approach to preventing through thorough investigation of rail-related deaths.
It was wonderful to welcome nearly 30 of our PACTS members in person, fostering valuable discussions and connections. We look forward to reconvening for our next meeting in November.
