Saul Billingsley, Director General of the FIA Foundation, will be the guest speaker at the PACTS meeting on Tuesday 1st July.

The post-2015 opportunity: global road safety and the sustainable development agenda 2015 is a crucial year for global health, international development and road safety. In September 2015 the UN will hold a summit of world leaders to formally approve new post-2015 ‘Sustainable Development Goals’. In November 2015, the Government of Brazil will host a global high level conference to review progress in the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020. The FIA Foundation is at the forefront of efforts to include a road safety target in the new global Goals. The Foundation’s Director General, Saul Billingsley, will discuss what this could mean for international and UK policy, and how can PACTS members be involved in this vital debate. The meeting will be held at 3pm on Tuesday 1st July at Clutha House (1st Floor), 10 Storey’s Gate, Westminster, London SW1P 3AY. It is open to all PACTS members. Biography:
Saul Billingsley is Director General of the FIA Foundation. Saul is also co-Chair of the Road Safety Fund, jointly established by the FIA Foundation and the World Health Organization to support the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020, and served as its founding Director between 2010 and 2014. Saul serves as a Trustee of two UK charities, the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) which encourages safer road design in middle and low income countries; and Make Roads Safe, which promotes global road traffic injury prevention. Saul is also a member of the Executive Board of the World Bank’s Global Road Safety Facility. He served on the Executive Committee of the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) from 2007 to 2013, and was a Trustee of the UK Road Safety Foundation from 2008 to 2013. He is a global coordinator of the Make Roads Safe campaign, and devised its current ‘Long Short Walk’ campaign. Saul was Deputy Director General of the FIA Foundation from 2004-2013 and its first Programmes Director from 2001-2004. Saul was previously Director of Policy in the European Union office of the Fédération Internationale de I’Automobile, and Parliamentary & Campaigns Manager for the RAC, a UK motoring organisation. He graduated in History from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and, after completing a postgraduate journalism diploma at the Centre for Journalism Studies at Cardiff University, began his career by working as a political aide in the UK Parliament.
