Peter J. Sippitt

Peter joined the Metropolitan Police Traffic Division in 1973 and achieved the necessary qualifications to investigate fatal road traffic collisions in 1976, taking on the role of Senior Collision Investigator for the Met in 2005. He has investigated a large number of fatal and serious injury collisions during his career.

In 1999 Peter became a member of the implementation team that introduced vehicle borne data recorders into the Metropolitan Police and took the lead in this subject until his retirement in November 2014.

Peter has been a member of the Council of Management of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators since 2009 and was appointed Chairman in January 2015.

In the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2014, Peter was awarded an MBE for services to collision investigation and vehicle borne data recorder technology.
