Summary of key transport safety updates from Parliament – May 2025
As part of PACTS’ commitment to monitoring transport safety developments across Parliament, here are several recent and forthcoming highlights from Westminster.
A34 Slip Road Safety Bill Introduced
On 13 May, Olivia Bailey MP introduced a Ten Minute Rule Bill titled A34 Slip Road Safety (East Isley and Beedon) Bill. The Bill seeks to mandate a review of the safety of A34 slip roads and require the publication of improvement plans to address existing safety concerns. A second reading is expected on 13 June 2025.
E-Scooter Costs and Enforcement Discussed in House of Lords
On 14 May, members of the House of Lords raised questions about government engagement with the insurance sector regarding the costs associated with illegally operated e-scooters. Broader issues surrounding e-mopeds and micromobility were also discussed, though no timetable for legislation was given.
