The Universities’ Transport Studies Group (UTSG) held their 50th Anniversary Event on the 19th December 2017 at University College London.
One of three main speakers, Richard Allsop OBE, FREng, Emeritus Professor of Transport Studies from the Centre for Transport Studies, UCL presented a lecture on ‘Reducing Risk on Road and Rail.’ The lecture reviews the main features in 50 years of road and rail safety research in the UK and the resultant improvements in transport safety. He also identifies some challenges in the years to come.
Professor Allsop was, for many years, a Trustee and Director of PACTS and is now a Special Adviser. He describes the symbiotic relationship between UTSG and PACTS. UTSG members have provided PACTS with research evidence and expertise, and PACTS has been effective in conveying evidence-led policy to Members of Parliament and Government.
