Richard Burden

Richard Burden MP
Shadow Minister for Strategic Transport Networks

In September 2015 Richard was appointed Shadow Minister for Strategic Transport Networks, with responsibility for aviation, Strategic Road Network, future transport, road and intermodal safety and international shipping. He was previously Labour’s Shadow Minister overseeing local transport, with responsibility for issues including roads, road safety and standards, cycling, future transport and the environment.
Richard has been the Labour MP for Birmingham Northfield since 1992. Richard has lived in Birmingham for most of his life and campaigns on behalf of residents from across the constituency on a multitude of issues including housing, welfare, crime, education, healthcare, parking and planning to name but a few. Richard pushes for action to boost jobs and opportunities in South West Birmingham, an area which has faced huge economic challenges, not least following the collapse of MG Rover in 2005. Richard’s interest in manufacturing is also reflected in roles as a member of Parliament’s Trade and Industry Select Committee from 2001-2005, Chair of the former West Midlands Select Committee (2009-10).
