Anthony Ferguson

Anthony is Deputy Director of Traffic & Technology in the UK Department for Transport. His entire career has been spent in national transport policy across all modes, for example securing the legal powers for the Crossrail project in London and writing the Government’s policy position on additional airport capacity. His current role encompasses traditional traffic management policy, involving things like the way roadworks are planned and carried out, parking regulations, the rules for traffic signs and guidance for local authorities about best practice in street design. Increasingly it is also about exploring the potential for data and emerging technology to improve the safety, efficiency and environmental performance of the UK’s road networks.  His team directly manages two national digital services: one for the Blue Badge disabled mobility scheme and Street Manager which is designed to help authorities and utility companies to plan and manage their works. Anthony’s team is also developing the UK’s first policy position on micromobility through national trials of e-scooters and preparing new national legislation.
