On 20th May 2025, PACTS held its Joint Working Party Meeting at the Smart Mobility Living Lab (TRL) in Woolwich, London. The event brought together members and transport safety experts to examine how mode shift contributes to the delivery of a Safe System and the goal of Vision Zero.
The morning plenary session, chaired by Richard Cuerden (TRL), featured insightful presentations from:
-
-
Tom Cohen (University of Westminster, Active Travel Academy)
-
Sharon Kindleysides (Transport and ITS specialist)
-
Rachael Everard (RSSB)
-
Speakers discussed how promoting safer, more sustainable travel choices—such as walking, cycling, and public transport—can reduce fatalities and life-changing injuries on our roads. Rachael also provided a valuable perspective on the role of rail in supporting safety and decarbonisation.
Following lunch and an optional tour of the Smart Mobility Living Lab, attendees took part in individual Working Party sessions. These discussions are an essential part of shaping PACTS’ priorities and fostering cross-sector collaboration.
We are grateful to everyone who joined us, both in person and online—and especially to TRL for hosting the day and supporting our work.
