It is over 40 years since PACTS came into being under the Chairmanship of Barry Sheerman MP. With another general election upon us, we’re reflecting on some of the key achievements of our organisation throughout its history:
- 1983: Our founders are responsible for the legislation which made it compulsory to wear seatbelts
- 1987: PACTS begins to hold road safety conferences
- 1998: PACTS becomes a registered charity with the charitable objective ‘To promote transport safety legislation to protect human life’
- 2007: PACTS receives a Prince Michael Road Safety Award for its effective advocacy for research-based and evidence-led policy proposals
- 2011: PACTS co-ordinates the UK launch of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety
- 2016: With the WHO and Towards Zero Foundation, PACTS co-hosts a conference which resulted in the Westminster Declaration and establishment of the Global Network For Road Safety Legislators
- 2022: PACTS celebrates its 40th anniversary with over 150 PACTS members.
