The Law Commission of England and Wales is considering the law surrounding remote driving, where a person outside a vehicle uses wireless connectivity to control a vehicle on a public road. The Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) and International Vehicle Standards of the Department for Transport have asked the Law Commission to clarify the current legal status of remote driving and consider whether reforms are needed. The full issue paper and further details of the project can be accessed here.
PACTS responded to this consultation after thorough meetings and deliberation with its members focusing on the safety challenges of remote driving. The response from PACTS can be accessed here.
